You have just one body, so you may want to take it in for a check-up. No appointment is necessary and no money is needed.
The doctor will be in at the community health, resource and book fair organized by the All Peoples Community Center. For 12 years, the group has provided free and complete health screenings for residents near downtown and South Los Angeles.
Residents are encouraged to drop by and have one of several health tests performed. They will also get free information on diabetes, cholesterol, high blood pressure, breast cancer, HIV and AIDS, among many other health issues. There will be 50 exhibits, including Scholastic Books, which has a special book sale offer.
Last year more than 1,000 people participated.
Saundra Bryant, Executive Director of the All Peoples Community Center, encourages local residents to take advantage of the fair, particularly those who may have no alternative to receive preventive health care or insurance. She says "screening and early intervention are important."
The 12th annual event is Saturday, March 28, 2009 between 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The All Peoples Community Center is located at 822 East 20th St., Los Angeles, CA., 90011.
