Disney's Maliboomer Ride Going Bust

The Maliboomer is going bust. The tower thrill ride built in 2001 at Disney's California Adventure has been slated for demolition.

The folks at Disney say the ride just doesn't fit with the new theme of the park, which is currently undergoing a $1 billion expansion.

“As part of our overall expansion of Disney California Adventure park, the new vision for the Paradise Pier area is a return to the romance and charm of California’s oceanfront playgrounds of the early 1900s," Betsy Sanchez, a Disneyland Resort spokeswoman, told the Orange County Register.

The pneumatically powered ride was designed to slingshot guests up one of three 180 foot towers and them drop them back down. Plastic "Scream Shields" were installed to block guests' screams from reaching nearby residents.

The ride's removal is part of a series of renovations taking place in the park including the addition of Cars Land, a 12 acre area based on the "Cars" movies as well as updates to attractions including Mulholland Madness, Paradise Pier, and the area surrounding A Bug's Life, the Register reported.

Park guests last day to ride the Maliboomer will be September 6.
