Driver Says Fake Cop Stopped Her, Groped Under Her Clothes

A man impersonating a law enforcement officer pulled over and groped a female motorist, then fled on Saturday night, the victim said.

The woman said she was driving southbound on Sierra Highway near Avenue S in Palmdale, Calif., around 10:45 p.m. Saturday when she saw a flashing blue light in her rear-view mirror and stopped. She told investigators that the suspect was a Latino man in his 30s, about 5 feet 10 inches, average weight, dressed in a dark uniform and driving a dark-colored Ford, possibly a Crown Victoria.

The woman said the man showed her a badge and said he stopped her because she was swerving on the road. She said he asked her for identification and told her to get out of her vehicle, then had her walk a straight line as if he were giving her a field sobriety test. She said he told her to put her hands on the trunk of her car, and at that point he began groping her over and under her clothing.

The woman said she fought with the man and was able to break free, run back to her car and drive away. She reported the assault and was examined at a hospital and released.
