Powerball Jackpot Hits $422 Million

It is the eighth largest prize in the game's history and the 11th biggest in the U.S.

Get your lucky numbers ready: the Powerball jackpot has grown to a whopping $422 million ahead of Wednesday night's drawing. It is the eighth largest prize in the game's history and the 11th biggest in the U.S.

The jackpot amount has rolled over 22 times since the last lucky winner. On May 7, a New Jersey family purchased a ticket matching all six numbers, winning more than $284 million.

Marvin and Mae Acosta were the last Californians to win the Powerball. They purchased the winning ticket in Chino Hills in January, but they didn't come forward until last week. They shared the record-breaking $1.586 billion jackpot with winners in Tennessee and Florida.

If someone matches all six numbers Wednesday night, they will have the choice between taking the $422 million prize spread over 30 years, or taking the lump sum, estimated at $291.8 million before federal taxes.

The winning numbers will be drawn Wednesday at 7:59 p.m.
