LA's “Etch Man” Embraces Mitt Romney Campaign Etch A Sketch Gaffe

A Mitt Romney campaign blooper is putting the spotlight on Etch A Sketches, and by association Christoph Brown -- aka the world's fastest Etch A Sketch artist

GOP rivals wasted no time jumping on a recent Etch A Sketch gaffe from a Mitt Romney staffer.

Neither did Christoph Brown.

While Republican rivals Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich saw a chance to score political points, Brown saw a different opportunity -- a chance to put his trade in the limelight.

"Talk about the Etch A Sketch all you want, because it just makes my business happy," Brown said.

Brown is the self-proclaimed "Etch Man," billing himself as the world's fastest Etch A Sketch artist. He's parlayed his gift of etch into the LA-based Etch U Productions, offering custom etches and party entertainment.

Since Wednesday's gaffe, followed by Santorum and Gingrich appearances with Etch A Sketches, the phones have been ringing a bit more at the company's Tarzana headquarters, said the company's production coordinator Lita Lopez.

"It helped, ya," Lopez said. "The more people talk people it, the more phone calls we're going to get."

The political Etch A Sketch whirlwind started Wednesday during an interview on CNN.

"I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. It's almost like an Etch A Sketch. You can kind of shake it up and we start all over again," Romney Campaign Senior Advisor Eric Fehrnstrom said.

Critics have often portrayed Romney as a flip-flopper, switching positions for what's politically popular at the time. Wednesday's comment gave those critics new fodder.

And although Brown may not be running for office, he's still equally thankful for the fodder.

"Ya, he's definitely done me a favor," Brown said.
