Mule Struck by Vehicle on Pacific Coast Highway

The mule, which escaped from a pen, was struck by a vehicle on PCH and later euthanized due to its injuries

A loose mule that escaped from a pen was struck Monday morning by a vehicle on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu and later euthanized due to its injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the crash near Heathercliff Road.

A veterinarian and animal control agents responded to the location, which was blocked off by patrol vehicles. Eastbound lanes on PCH remained closed during the medical aid response.

The seriously injured animal was euthanized at about 9 a.m., according to City News Service.
