Inglewood Mayor's Daughter Pleads Guilty to Assault

The 33-year-old has been charged with conspiracy and assault for an alleged attack in April 2016.

Inglewood Mayor James Butts Jr.'s 33-year-old daughter pleaded guilty Thursday to conspiracy and assault charges stemming from an April 2016 attack on her landlord.

Ashley Melissa Butts is expected to be sentenced Nov. 13 to one year in county jail in connection with her plea to one count each of conspiracy to commit assault and assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

A four-year state prison sentence is expected to be suspended.

Butts became involved in a dispute with her landlord after moving into his home in the 3300 block of West 78th Street and arranged for a ridehailing driver to take two men to the residence on April 30, 2016, to assault the victim, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Butts and co-defendant Israel Rios, 40, allegedly exchanged text messages shortly before the other man, who has not been identified, assaulted the victim with a metal bat, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Rios — who is awaiting trial — faces up to 22 years in state prison if convicted as charged.
