A sheriff's deputy who shot and killed a man who allegedly struck him with his car at a Norwalk gas station has been released from the hospital, sheriff's officials said Thursday, as they continued their investigation into what led to the deadly confrontation.
The deputy, who was not identified, ran a license plate check Wednesday at the 7-Eleven where another fatal shooting had taken place a day earlier, and learned that the white Acura Integra had been reported stolen, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department news release.
When the deputy approached the car, the driver started the engine, and "at some point, the vehicle accelerated," the release said. The deputy was allegedly struck by the car, leading him to open fire on the driver.
Officials said the deputy performed first aid and CPR on the man until paramedics arrived. The man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The deputy was also taken to the hospital. He was released after being treated for unspecified injuries.
On Tuesday, a man was gunned down in the 7-Eleven parking lot in what deputies described as a gang-related attack. Witnesses told investigators the victim was shot after getting into an argument inside the store with two suspects, who ran off after opening fire.
