KFWB-AM (980) announced Monday it will switch to a news-talk format Sept. 8, but will keep a three-hour morning news block.
KFWB's talk lineup will feature Laura Schlessinger, whose syndicated program will air from noon-3 p.m., the same time it is heard now on KFI-AM (640).
KFI announced that morning show host Bill Handel will host a show from noon-2 p.m. and "The John & Ken Show" will begin an hour earlier to fill the time that had been occupied by Schlessinger's show.
KFWB will air syndicated programs hosted by Laura Ingraham from 9 a.m.- noon and Michael Smerconish from 6-9 p.m.
The morning newscast from 6-9 a.m. will be anchored by Phil Hulett and Penny Griego. A locally based talk show -- whose host was not announced -- will air from 3-6 p.m.
KFWB began emphasizing entertainment industry news under its all-news format earlier this year. It also started carrying weekday games of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and airing infomercials on Saturdays this year.
