Marijuana Clinic Crackdown Fails to Shutter Some Dispensaries

The city of Los Angeles passed an ordinance earlier this year to cut down on the number of medical marijuana dispensaries that could do business in L.A. neighborhoods.

But a visit to Eagle Rock on Wednesday showed at least two dispensaries in operation even though they are not on the approved list.

AEC and House of Kush -- both in Eagle Rock -- are keeping busy with a steady stream of young male clients.

Dispensary owner Van Ton claims the city's ordinance conflicts with state law on medical marijuana and thereby is invalid.

He claims he has addressed the city's issues by adding a security guard and surveillance cameras at AEC.

But this does not please Michael Larsen of the Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council who pushed for the dispensary ordinance.

He said he's frustrated that three months after the ordinance passed, dispensaries that closed down are back in business.

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for the L.A. City Attorney's office told NBCLA that these dispensaries will not escape the law, adding "there will be law enforcement proceedings against each and every one of them."

No one seems to know just when this will happen.
