Man Who Wounded Officer in Shooting Killed in Boyle Heights

A man who wounded an LAPD officer in a shooting was killed in Boyle Heights on Friday, police said.

The shooting occurred about 8:30 p.m. in the 3400 block of Lee Street, according to Officer Rosario Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.

Police said tge suspected gang member displayed a weapon as officers were conducting a pedestrian stop. There was an exchange of gunfire and the man was killed, LAPD said.

Los Angeles County Coroner's officials identified the man Sunday as Robert Mark Diaz, 28.

One of the officers was shot in the shoulder and a second officer was taken to the hospital after he was complaining of pain following the confrontation.

Both officers were expected to be OK, police said.

There is no word yet on what led up to the confrontation.
