Passengers Held on Grounded Plane Sue Taca

Dozens of passengers stuck in a grounded airplane for about nine hours at Ontario International Airport have sued Taca airlines, claiming negligence and false imprisonment.

The Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit was filed Monday on behalf of 75 plaintiffs.

It contends that 192 passengers aboard Flight 670 from El Salvador to Los Angeles suffered inhumane treatment by being forced to stay inside the plane without enough food, water or fresh air. It was diverted to the airport last November because Los Angeles International Airport was fogged in.

The airline has blamed the problem on refueling delays, fog and a lack of U.S. Customs and Border Protection staffers at the Ontario airport to process the passengers.

The lawsuit seeks up to $5 million in damages.
