A popular pet food company has announced a massive, worldwide, voluntary recall of several of its products, saying the food might be tainted with salmonella that could harm pets who eat it or people who handle it.
Natura Pet Products' recall includes five dry pet food varieties -- but not wet food varieties -- with expiration dates on or before March 24, 2014:
- California Natural
- EVO
- Healthwise
- Innova
- Karma
According to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration statement, salmonella can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Pets with the infections may exhibit similar symptoms.
The statement urges anyone who fed their pets any of those foods affected by the recall to contact a veterinarian.
