RUBIDOUX, Calif. -- An elderly man was attacked and killed by his family's two large pit bulls when the massive adult dogs turned on him without provocation.
The Rubidoux man stepped outside of his home at 5787 Kenwood Place for a cigarette when he was mauled to death on Friday, according to sheriff's Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez.
"It appears at this time it is a very tragic accident," Gutierrez said. "Of course this family is very distraught, right before the holidays." A female relative was home at the time of the vicious attack but was powerless to stop the dogs. The man died inside the house where he planned to spend the holidays with his family, cops said.
The dogs were captured and will be euthanized, Gutierrez said.
