Pizza Day Is on the Way, Pie-Loving SoCalers

What's happening in the pizzaverse these days? Check out newer slices 'round our region.

What to Know

  • Saturday, Feb. 9
  • Pilot Flying J has free slices
  • Prince Street Pizza, a NYC favorite, is visiting West Hollywood from Feb. 8-10

A round, rolled-out, thin layer of dough?

Count on it to hold a ladle of marinara or alfredo sauce, most often, and a few handfuls of shredded mozzarella, too.

Recent years, however, have seen a whole haute collection of cool toppers to the traditional pizza, from nuts to pasta to various fruits.

It's a development so delightful that a 'za-obsessed person might wish that every day would be National Pizza Day.

Alas: Only Feb. 9 is, each and every year.

So how to best celebrate the sauce-strewn occasion? By checking out a few of the newer pizza-themed haps around Southern California, like...

Mr. Taco Nice Taqueria & Pizzeria, in Anaheim, which has been creating loaded-up pizzas that pay homage to street tacos since the late summer of '18.

Look for lime wedges to pop up on the savory pies, as well as thick radish slices, and pico de gallo, and other zesty add-ons, the sort of delicious ingredients you'd find in a perfectly composed, perfectly classic street taco.

The luscious and hearty line-up of pizzas include Al Pastor, La Mexicana, Mexican meat lovers, and al gobernada. Mmm x four.

Prince Street Pizza, an icon of the Big Apple, will be calling upon Los Angeles for three amazingly cheesy-gooey days. Those days just happen to fall over National Pizza Day, oh yeah, so make your way to 8947 W. Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood from Feb. 8 through the 10th.

The two pizzas you can buy, either by the square or by the whole pie? The Spicy Spring, which rocks special-cut Italian pepperoni, or the meatless Prince Perfection.

Bacari W. 3rd, Bacari West Adams, Bacari GDL, and Bacari PDR will all show National Pizza Day the love, and, of course, the holiday's fandom, too, on Feb. 9. How? By offering a deal that involves a pizza and a house beer, priced at $14 total.

The flavors? Think the spicy Roasted Market Tomato, the delish margherita, and a white pizza, complete with bacon.

Pilot Flying J, that snack-laden, fuel-up, get-a-sip road-close classic, is honoring National Pizza Day every day through Feb. 10. How? You can snag a free slice, through the Pilot Flying J app. A bonus? "First-time users receive an additional free drink of their choice when downloading the app."

The slices boast "100% real mozzarella" and a variety of toppings. Get details now.
