Police Hunt for Long Beach Bus Shooter

Witnesses on the bus reported hearing three shots. One hit the side of the bus just above passengers heads.

Police are searching for shooter who fired at a transit bus in Long Beach Sunday, narrowly missing passengers inside.

The shooting happened in the 1100 block of Queens Highway at around 12:30 a.m., according to Long Beach police.

Witnesses on the bus reported hearing three shots. One hit the side of the bus just above passengers heads, police said.

"Me and my girlfriend were out on Pike Avenue having a good time and the next thing we know we're getting shot at," said Corey Forbes, who was on vacation from Sacramento.

Forbes said at first he thought the safety handle he was holding onto while riding the bus just exploded. Then he realized it was actually a gunshot.

"After that, I was like, ok, it's a bullet and we need to get on the ground just in case they're still trying to shoot at us," Forbes said.

The public bus offers riders free shuttle service to tourist attractions like the Queen Mary.

No one was hurt in the shooting. Police did not yet know of a motive or have any suspects.
