Police Search for Thieves Behind String of Burglaries in Palos Verdes Estates

Police were searching for burglars suspected of targeting a dozen homes and cars in Palos Verdes Estates this month.

The burglars hit five homes around the peninsula of Palos Verdes within one day. The same burglars are suspected of breaking into nearby cars following the burglaries, according to the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department.

"This is the last place where you'd think there'd be crimes," resident Charles Malone said.

Police said that in many cases the burglars were scared away by alarm systems after they broke into homes.

Residents were on edge because the first of the burglaries was reported around 7 p.m. -- a time when many people arrive home.

"How many times somebody walk in on a burglar too. That's another scary part," resident Jack Green said.

Police said the thieves made away with hundreds of dollars in jewelry and electronics.

Police were looking for at three people possibly involved, including a getaway driver.

Officials with Torrance Police Department said they were not sure if the Palos Verdes Estates robberies were connected to an increase in burglaries in Torrance.
