Power Outages Affect More Than 100,000 in LA and Orange Counties

A widespread power outage in Los Angeles and Orange counties affected more than 100,000 Southern California Edison customers in several cities, knocking out air conditioning on a blazing hot Friday afternoon.

The outages lasted for several hours, affecting Long Beach, Cerritos La Mirada and several other areas. Service to customers in Long Beach and La Mirada was restored at about 8:40 p.m.

However, at 10 p.m Friday., nearly 60,000 customers remained without power throughout Southern California - including some 45,000 in Cerritos. Another 11,700 customers were affected in Los Alamitos.

The outage hit as many inland areas experienced temperatures of more than 100 degrees.

The utility cited "extreme heat" and "equipment problems" for the outages. Click here to see a list of Southern California Edison outages.
