A severed human hand was found Tuesday near a school in Lake Los Angeles east of Palmdale.
Deputies will continue a search Wednesday morning for evidence and a possible victim in the area of Avenue N and 170th Street East, said sheriff's Homicide Detective Louie Aguilera.
The hand was discovered just before sundown Tuesday, said sheriff's Sgt. Slade Carrizosa. Deputies and a cadaver dog searched for about two hours before darkness set in, Carrizosa said.
Nothing else was found aside from the hand, said Lt. Larry Dietz of the Los Angeles County coroner's office.
The location of the hand discovery described by Aguilera is south of Challenger Middle School.
Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said the hand was found in a sparsely populated area. He said it was possible an animal brought it there. He could not say how long the hand may have been severed.
