Ski and Board Fans Welcome Snow in April

Unusual spring weather is not wasted on winter sports enthusiasts

Spring break and snow are not your typical combination in Southern California. Surf boards are more common than snowboards this time of year.

But nobody can make last minute adjustments like an 8 year old. Take Anthony Tellez, for example.

"You just make sure you slide and ride the snow," said Tellez, snowboarding for the first time at Snow Valley, near Big Bear Lake.

Anthony's grandmother watched with admiration.

"He's doing great, he's having a fabulous time," said Jayce Tellez, while noting that Anthony was spending a lot of time falling down.

Anthony's mom wondered if this might turn into a longer vacation than planned.

"They say 10 to 18 inches of snow," said Tracey Tellez. "So, we're praying for snow."

Travel plans?

"I might have to stay until Sunday, maybe Monday," said Tellez.

The snow level was expected to dip to 5,000 feet Friday, so a delayed departure was a distinct possibility. But nobody was complaining
