San Fernando Valley Police Chase Heads Down the 405 Freeway Into South Bay

NBC Universal, Inc.

A police pursuit of a driver wanted for erratic driving and speed in the San Fernando Valley traveled down the 405 Freeway through West Los Angeles, down to San Pedro and Carson, before concluding in Palos Verdes Estates Tuesday.

The chase started around 4:58 p.m. on the eastbound 101 Freeway around the Las Virgenes Road exit, the California Highway Patrol said.

Newschopper4 Bravo was over the chase around 5:15 p.m., as the car was moving through relatively heavy traffic on the 101 Freeway near the Winnetka Avenue exit.

The car hopped off the freeway and was traveling in the Encino and Van Nuys areas on surface streets, often getting stuck in traffic. However, the car seemed to accelerate and increased the tension by driving in the center divider, breaking red lights and occasionally going on the wrong side of the street.

Around 5:35 p.m., the car got on the 405 Freeway southbound and headed into the Sepulveda Pass.

The driver was going across several lanes and appeared to possibly clip a car on the 405 Freeway in West LA, before driving on the shoulder of the freeway.

Around 5:50 p.m., the car continued south and passed LAX.
