He provides news coverage for stories impacting the Southern California area, including wildfires and earthquakes. Shahan has a background in sports. For the better part of a decade, he was a digital sports reporter covering the LA Lakers for NBCLA, including covering the end of Kobe Bryant’s playing career and LeBron James’ arrival in LA. He has covered the NBA Finals in Oakland and NBA Summer League and USA Basketball training camp in Las Vegas. As a traveling beat reporter, he has covered games in more than a third of NBA arenas and even a preseason in China.

Additionally, Shahan covered European football for a decade and served as a soccer columnist for Yahoo! Sports for several years. In his time in that role, he covered multiple live events across the world. In Europe, he covered the Champions League Final in Wales, Premier League in England, La Liga in Spain and Bundesliga in Germany. In the United States, he's covered El Trafico at both stadiums, USA vs. Mexico at the Rose Bowl and the Copa America in Santa Clara.

Given his experience, Shahan occasionally assists on NBCLA's coverage of major sporting events, but his primary focus is on providing digital news coverage for Southern California.
