Sparks Fly, Tires Come Off as Police Stop Kidnapping Suspect

A man accused of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend at knifepoint Tuesday was arrested after he led police on a pursuit through the Pomona area.

The pursuit began around 4:20 p.m., according to Long Beach Police Department Sgt. Brad Johnson.

The woman's family said that the suspect, Eric Aguirre, became upset after he and the victim broke up. He demanded the victim give him back a truck that was left on her family's driveway, which ultimately led to the chase.

"We all approached them and he drove off with her and the knife," the victim's sister said.

"I thought I lost my daughter," the woman's mother said.

The vehicle, a black pickup truck, at one point lost at least one tire and was riding on rims, sparks flying from the front and back passenger's side. The chase ended when police performed a PIT maneuver on the vehicle on the eastbound 210 Freeway.

No injuries were reported in the chase.

Aguirre was arrested and is facing charges including kidnapping, domestic violence, evading and grand theft auto.
