CARSON, Calif. -- A man arrested by sheriff's deputies in Carson this weekend died at a hospital, authorities said Monday.
The 41-year-old man, whose name was not immediately released, died about 11:45 p.m. Sunday, said Deputy Keith Ho of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.
Deputies had gone to the 1200 block of 222nd Street about 5 a.m. Saturday on a report that the suspect had assaulted an elderly family member, Ho said in a statement.
"The suspect began throwing items at deputies, who utilized a variety of less-lethal weapons in an attempt to subdue the male suspect," Ho stated.
After the man was taken into custody, he became "non-responsive," and paramedics took him to a hospital, where he died, Ho said.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death, Ho said.
