Suspect in Coachella Valley-Area Burglaries Arrested

LA QUINTA, Calif. -- A parolee suspected in several Coachella Valley-area burglaries was arrested as he walked out of a La Quinta store with allegedly stolen merchandise that he was about to put in a vehicle that had been reported stolen, authorities said Thursday.

Tayler Carlin Pearce, 21, of Indio, was taken into custody around 9 p.m. Wednesday when he left the Wal-Mart at 79295 Highway 111, said Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Mark Hoyt.

Pearce allegedly tried to run but was caught after a brief foot pursuit, Hoyt said.

He said Pearce had items allegedly stolen from the Wal-Mart, and the vehicle Pearce was allegedly using had been reported stolen from Bermuda Dunes earlier that day.

Pearce also allegedly had illegal drugs, the sergeant said.

He is a suspect in "a series of vehicle and residential burglaries" in La Quinta, prompting police to search his residence in the 40000 block of Alabama Hills Drive, Hoyt said.

During the search, investigators learned he was at the La Quinta Wal-Mart and went to the store, spotting Pearce as he was walking out, Hoyt said.
