Suspected Hit-and-Run Driver Struck by Amtrak Train

The female driver was taken to Simi Valley Hospital with serious injuries.

A suspected hit-and-run driver leaving the scene of a crash wound up on train tracks in Simi Valley and was hit by an Amtrak train Tuesday night, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office said.

The female driver was taken to Simi Valley Hospital with serious injuries.

The SUV involved in both crashes was left damaged and mangled after the train smashed into it and carried the whiite BMW X5 about 200 yards down the track before the train could come to a stop.

The SUV ended on the edge of the tracks and that driver was pulled out by medical crews.

The other car involved in the initial crash stayed at the scene, police said, and now they are investigating exactly what happened and why the other driver took off.

No one on the train was hurt.

Amtrak officials and Metrolink officials arrived at the scene to perform safety checks. They were checking out the front end of the train and the tracks to make sure all is safe before they continue on.
