Third Long Beach Homicide Reported in 2 Days

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- A 26-year-old man sitting in a vehicle at a Long Beach apartment complex was shot to death Monday in the third homicide in the city in two days, police said.

The latest shooting occurred about 12:30 a.m. at Orange Avenue and 59th Street, said Officer Jackie Bezart of the Long Beach Police Department.

Malaki Teaupa, 26, died at the scene, said Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the coroner's office.

Teaupa was sitting in the driver's seat of an SUV when, according to witnesses, two males approached on foot and fired several times into the vehicle, Bezart said.

The motive for the shooting was not immediately determined.

The shooting followed a violent weekend in Long Beach. On Saturday, a 15-month-old girl and a man were seriously wounded in a shooting in the 1600 block of Sherman Place.

On Sunday, two men were killed in a shooting in the 2000 block of East Del Amo Boulevard. Austin Seng, 20, of Long Beach died at the scene; Chamreun Kong, 20, of Bellflower died at a hospital, Winter said. Both double shootings may have been gang-related, Bezart said.
