The University of California Irvine sent out a campus-wide alert Friday, informing students and faculty that a woman who lives near the university had been raped.
On July 7, just before midnight, a 24-year-old woman had just gotten out of the shower when she was attacked and raped by an intruder, according to Irvine police.
The victim told police the intruder entered her apartment through the front door, which had been left open.
The woman's housing complex is on the 100 block of Amherst Aisle, less than a mile from the UCI campus, but investigators would not say if the woman is a student.
UC Irvine Police describe the suspect as a white man, 6 feet tall, possibly with blue eyes.
Nearby residents are urged to keep their doors locked at all times.
UCI police are asking anyone with information to call UCI police at 949-824-5223.
