Two reputed gang members have been arrested and charged with opening fire on a group of people in the backyard of the family home. Marcus Denson, 18, and Leonard Hall Jr., 21, are each charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder. They are expected to be arraigned November 19.
Prosecutors said Hall and Denson were members of the Kitchen Crips gang, and they entered rival gang territory on Halloween day and approached the back of a home that opened up into an alley. A group of men were gathered in a backyard Aaron was running around, showing his father and others his costume.
Denson and Hall allegedly opened fire on the group, fatally striking the child and injuring the boy's uncle and grandfather, prosecutors said. According to police, the neighborhood where the boy lived is an active gang area, but his family had no gang ties.
The boy died from a single gunshot wound to the back of the head.
