Hundreds wearing white marched Saturday to the site where a mother and her daughter were shot and killed in front of their home last weekend.
"The whole thing is tragic. The husband, yards away, had to witness," Nathan Wallace, who attended the vigil, said.
Carina Mancera, 26, and Jennabel Anaya, 4, were shot last Saturday while walking across the street to their apartment. Mancera was pronounced dead at the scene, and Anaya died from her injuries at the hospital, police said.
The LB Love Your Community Walk, organized by EPIC Strong, took place at 8 p.m. Saturday.
Children held signs that read: "Don't shoot me" and "Never shoot kids."
"It means a lot to us," Gustavo Mancera, the victims' cousin, said.
Jennabel's father and Carina's partner, Luis Anaya, lead the walk.

As part of the event, people lit white candles to show "peace and harmony," and walk "hand-in-hand" with neighbors and friends on Locust Avenue from 12th Street to 9th Street to honor their lives.
The event also hoped to bring the community together against violence in Long Beach.
"Together let’s declare that we refuse to be the forgotten, ignored, and avoided part of Long Beach where violence and death is normalized," read the Facebook event page. It added, "...let us join together in solidarity to support this family and pledge to make a commitment to bettering our neighborhood."
Authorities have not been able to determine who was responsible for the shooting.
Police announced a $40,000 reward Friday for information that leads to the arrest of the gunman.
"We as a community are better than this. Somebody out there knows something, somebody out there has information," said Long Beach police Chief Robert Luna.
A GoFundMe was established for the families affected by the loss. It had raised $37,720 as of Saturday around noon. Donations for the family will be accepted at the walk Saturday night also.
