Man Arrested in Grandmother's Stabbing in Altadena

A 23-year-old man was arrested in Altadena Friday night on suspicion of stabbing his 77-year-old grandmother and striking her over the head with an ax handle, sending her to a hospital where she was undergoing emergency surgery.

A call was made to 911 about 7:45 p.m. to say that the blood-covered victim was at her neighbor's front porch in the 1700 block of North Allen Avenue, said Lt. Cruz Solis of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Altadena Station.

Deputies determined she had been assaulted with a blunt object, possibly an ax handle, and stabbed multiple times, he said.

A grandson of the woman was taken into custody without incident and booked on suspicion of attempted murder, Solis said.

It was not immediately clear what sparked the attack.

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was undergoing emergency surgery at Huntington Memorial Hospital, Solis said.
