Hacked? Xbox and Playstation Networks Go Down

Hackers have claimed credit for attacks on the Xbox Live and Playstation gaming networks, which left thousands of people unable to sign in and play games on Christmas Day, NBC News reported. The networks, which allow users of the popular consoles to play video games with the wider online community, first crashed on Wednesday evening. A hacker group called "Lizard Squad" took to Twitter to claim responsibility, saying that it toppled both networks with so-called distributed denial of service attacks. Despite the fact Playstation is owned by Sony, which has been reeling from a massive attack on its servers by alleged North Korean hackers, there are no indications that the two hacks are related.
