Omaha Cop Shot Dead Hours Before Maternity Leave

A Nebraska police officer killed in a shootout while trying to serve a felony arrest warrant Wednesday had been just hours away from taking her 3-month-old daughter home from the hospital and starting maternity leave, NBC News reported. "A life taken too soon," the Omaha police said on their Facebook page, calling seven-year veteran Kerrie Orozco "a top notch police officer" who "gave back to the community in so many ways." Orozco, 29, had delivered Olivia Ruth prematurely in February and had put off taking maternity leave until her baby was due to come home from the hospital. But on Wednesday, she was killed in a shootout that also left a suspect dead, the police chief told The Associated Press.
