Slain Texas DA Was Shot at 20 Times: Source

The Texas district attorney who was killed over the weekend was shot at 20 times, and his wife, gunned down in their home as well, was shot just once, a federal source familiar with the investigation told NBC News. It was unclear how many times the DA was actually hit. Earlier, an affidavit had indicated that each victim had multiple gunshot wounds; no explanation has been given for the discrepancy. Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife Cynthia were found dead in their home outside Dallas on Saturday, less than two months after his top assistant was shot dead in the middle of the day and in the middle of the Kaufman, Texas, town square. The county sheriff's office is expected to provide updates on its investigation of the murders later today, after a Tuesday morning news briefing was canceled. No definitive link has been established with the killing of Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse back in January, but a judge said Monday that it was "obvious" the killings were related.
