Syracuse Assistant Coach Investigated for Sexual Abuse

Longtime Syracuse University assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine has been placed on administrative leave as police investigate whether he molested a team ball boy over a period of more than a dozen years, ESPN reported. The alleged victim, now 39-year-old Bobby Davis, told ESPN that Fine sexually abused him beginning in 1984 at Fine’s home, at Syracuse basketball facilities and on road trips including the 1987 Final Four. Syracuse University said in a statement to ESPN that it first heard in 2005 of an “adult male’s” allegations of "inappropriate contact by an associate men's basketball coach.” The school said the man told them Syracuse City Police said a statute of limitations on the alleged crimes had run out and the University's own 4-month investigation could not corroborate the man’s claim. “We understand that the Syracuse City Police has now reopened the case, and Syracuse University will cooperate fully,” they said. Fine is in his 35th season at Syracuse.
