Nigeria Ebola-Free After 42 Days With No Cases

The World Health Organization declared Nigeria free from Ebola, with no new cases after a 42-day period. The first case in Nigeria was imported by a Liberian-American diplomat, Patrick Sawyer, who collapsed at the country's main international airport in Lagos in July, and was able to infect several people including several health workers. Nigeria had 20 cases in total, of which eight people died. WHO representative Rui Gama Vaz said in a news conference in the capital Abuja that “we have only won a battle, the war will only end when West Africa is also declared free of Ebola.”
