Woman Claims Doctor Left Sponge Inside Her After C-Section: Suit

A 31-year-old woman has filed a lawsuit claiming a sponge was left inside her abdomen during a C-section at an Illinois Hospital in 2013. Rachel Erceg, 31, underwent a C-section at Prentice Women’s Hospital on Dec. 3, 2013, and claims she was discharged three days later, but returned to see the doctor on eight occasions complaining of abdominal pain and other symptoms. However, doctors never performed an x-ray or CT scan, the suit claims. The sponge was eventually discovered and removed five months after the C-section.
