Pasadena Man Charged With Murder in Freeway Crash That Killed 4-Month-Old

If convicted as charged, he could face up to 25 years to life in state prison.

A Pasadena man was charged today with murder and drunken driving counts for a crash on the Pasadena (110) Freeway in Elysian Park that killed a 4-month-old girl and left her grandmother injured.

Jared Hale Lynch Silvestri, 26, is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 15 on one count each of murder, driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing injury and driving with a 0.08 percent blood-alcohol content causing injury.

Silvestri allegedly crashed his VW Jetta full-speed into a Chrysler pulled over to the shoulder of the freeway near Stadium Way last Saturday about 6:40 p.m.

The infant, Melanie Brown, was riding in the Chrysler with her grandmother and a 9-year-old girl. The baby died about three hours later at a hospital.

The girl's grandmother suffered injuries of unknown severity. The 9-year- old's injuries were minor, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Silvestri, who suffered a minor injury in the crash, was arrested that night by the California Highway Patrol and has remained jailed since then.
