Police Ask for Public's Help Finding Schizophrenic Man

Silva has a methamphetamine habit and has a history of running away from his father to hang out with transients who show him how to panhandle for money to buy drugs, Bertagna said.

Santa Ana police sought the public's help Friday to find a bipolar, schizophrenic man with a drug habit and the mental capacity of a 12-year-old.

Jose Rigoberto Silva, 25, was with his father about noon Thursday near a state office building in the 600 block of West Santa Ana Boulevard when he wandered off, said Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna. Silva used the restroom and then went missing a few minutes later.

Silva has a methamphetamine habit and has a history of running away from his father to hang out with transients who show him how to panhandle for money to buy drugs, Bertagna said.

Silva is unfamiliar with Santa Ana and does not have a phone with him, the corporal said.

Silva is 5-foot-4 and weighs about 200 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and gray sweatpants with a white stripe along each side, Bertagna said.

Anyone with information was asked to call detectives at (714) 245-8408 or (714) 245-8000.
