Police Chase Ends in Nine-Car Pile-Up

A police chase ended in a multi-car pile-up in Anaheim Thursday afternoon.

Around 4 p.m., police were called to the 700 block of N. Brookhurst Avenue with a report of a suspicious man who may have been looking to steal something, according to Sgt. Daron Wyatt of the Anaheim Police Department.

The man then got into a white and blue 1985 Chevy van and left police on a pursuit on the southbound 5 Freeway before exiting at Katella and continuing to drive around erratically for about 15 minutes.

The can ended up in a collision involving at least nine other vehicles in the 500 block of Euclid Street in Anaheim, Wyatt said.

"I could hear all the noise behind us... screetching... you could just tell there was wreckage coming," a mother whose car was hit said, "His van was on fire, there was smoke everywhere... my instinct (was to) escape, get out, just in case."

Several people were injured and were treated by Anaheim Fire and Rescue.
