Detectives Sunday were looking for a woman who was in a South Gate motel room with a man who was shot to death, authorities said.
It happened at 7:06 p.m. at the Oak Tree Inn in the 9000 block of Long Beach Boulevard, according to Deputy Kelvin Moody of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.
"South Gate Police Department responded to the motel regarding a shots fired call," Moody said. When they arrived, they found the man suffering from at least one gunshot wound to his upper body.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Moody said.
Detectives learned the man was inside the room with a woman who fled the scene before police arrived, he said. "The woman is considered a person of interest."
