Porta-Potties Brought in at LAX After Water Main Break

A water main break outside Terminal 5 at Los Angeles International Airport disrupted traffic and forced the closure of terminal restrooms Friday, but there were no reported flight delays.

The break occurred around 10:30 a.m. on the lower/arrivals level of the airport in front of the terminal, according to LAX officials. The curb lane of the lower airport roadway was closed in front of the terminal while crews dug into the street to access the ruptured main.

The water line was shut down, forcing the closure of restrooms in Terminal 5. Other terminals were not affected and their restrooms remained open. Portable restrooms were also brought to Terminal 5, which is used by Delta Airlines.

Arriving passengers said they were advised before their departures to Los Angeles.  The lack of running water in the terminal also forced its restaurants to suspend fresh food prepartion.

Crews finished repairing the break shortly before 5 p.m., and shortly thereafter had that stretch of the World Way patched and re-opened to vehicles.

Restrooms also re-opened quickly, but restaurants were advised to flush out their water lines before resuming service of fresh food or brewing up coffee and tea.
