Potentially Dangerous Acid Found at UCLA

Hazardous materials crews were responding to the University of California, Los Angeles campus after a hazmat technician noticed a jar of potentially dangerous chemicals.

Just after 9 a.m. Saturday, a hazmat technician noticed a jar of picric acid, forcing a traffic shutdown of the immediate area, said UCLA Police Department Sgt. Brian Washburn. The substance was found at a chemical drop center, and crews were called as a precaution.

The Los Angeles Police Department's bomb squad and hazmat teams, as well as the Los Angeles Fire Department's hazmat team were on scene to dispose of the chemical.

The scene was cleared by around 1:20 p.m., with no evacuations.
