Firefighters are making headway on a wildfire that broke out in rural Santa Barbara County and forced the evacuation of about 1,200 people and their livestock.

Santa Barbara County Fire Department Capt. Dave Zaniboni said Tuesday the 320-acre fire is 75 percent contained. Evacuations have been lifted.

The fire broke out Monday behind the 228-year-old La Purisima Mission in Lompoc, although neither the mission nor any other structures had been damaged. The area is largely rural and home to numerous livestock and domestic animals.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but authorities are looking for two juveniles who were seen in the area.

Firefighters continued to mop up other fires around the state. A 49-square mile wildfire in the San Bernardino National Forest that started two weeks ago is 60 percent contained.
