Southern California Woman Missing After Returning to School in Utah

A Southern California woman was last seen a week ago when she returned to Utah for school, and family members and friends are now frantically working to find the missing college student.

NBCLA spoke to the family of 23-year-old Mackenzie Lueck, and the family member said that the woman is from El Segundo. The family member said that other family members have traveled to Salt Lake City and are now in contact with investigators in Utah to find Lueck.

The woman's friends spent the day posting flyers.

Lueck has been missing for nearly a week, and investigators say she was last seen on Monday after she flew from LAX back to Salt Lake City.

Lueck text her mother, saying she had landed safely in Utah.

Police say she then took a Lyft. They wont say where the Lyft dropped her off, but they say they don't believe she's at that location anymore.

"For her not to reach out to me--Snapchat, Instagram, anything--is very unlike her," a friend says.

Friends say Lueck, who is a student at the University of Utah, missed mid-terms and called that action very out of character.

They passed out fliers Sunday and even held a news conference, pleading for help.

The Lueck family issued a statement through those friends.

"Our primary goal is to find Mackenzie and bring her home. Our family is grateful for the concern, prayers and tireless effort of the Salt Lake City police and members of the community."

Police say they are following all possible leads.

Investigators say Lueck was scheduled to fly back to California Sunday, for a wedding, but as Sunday has come and gone, there is still no sign of where she might be.
