Another racehorse was killed after suffering an injury at the Los Alamitos Race Course, state regulators said Saturday, bringing the number of horses to die in racing or training-related injuries at the Cypress track this season to at least 16.
Malibu Morning, a 3-year-old colt, was euthanized after suffering an injury in the second race Friday night, according to Mike Marten, public information officer for the California Horse Racing Board.
Malibu Morning was owned and trained Felix L. Gonzalez, according to the industry website Equibase. Friday's race was his fourth career start.
Attempts to reach Los Alamitos officials for comment were not successful.
The current racing season began at Los Alamitos in late December and has been marked by several fatal injuries, including at least four in May.
Jabber Now, a 6-year-old thoroughbred, died Tuesday after she finished last in the third race the prior Sunday.
Rowboat Romeo, an unraced 2-year-old colt, died May 9 after participated in a 220-yard workout.

And Tap the Wire -- who survived the devastating 2017 Lilac Fire that killed 46 horses at San Luis Rey Downs -- died from injuries he suffered May 9 while winning a race at Los Alamitos.
Tap the Wire's death was not officially reported on the CHRB's web site because his death occurred at a facility outside the board's jurisdiction, and officials were "unable to confirm the cause of death by a postmortem examination," Marten told City News Service.
