Thief With Assault-Style Rifle Robs Santa Ana Businesses

Police sought the public's help Tuesday in identifying a rifle-wielding gunman who robbed two businesses in Santa Ana.

Both robberies occurred Saturday -- one at 2 a.m. at a Chevron station at 1501 S. Broadway and one two hours later at a 7-Eleven at 1020 S. Bristol St., according to Santa Ana police.

In each case, the suspect entered the businesses carrying an assault-style rifle and demanded money, police said.

The gunman is described as in his late 20s, 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build and thin goatee. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the word "Active" printed on it in red letters, gray slacks and black dress shoes. He also appears to have pierced ears.

"He was wearing a black ski-mask during each incident, however, he was captured on video unmasked prior to one of the robberies," police said.

Anyone with information about these or similar crimes was urged to contact SAPD Robbery Unit Detective A. Garcia at (714) 245-8408 or via email agarcia3@santa-ana.org.
