Two pedestrians suffered moderate to major injuries after they were struck by a hit-and-run driver in Newport Beach early Saturday morning, officials said.
The crash happened around 1:50 a.m. near the intersection of Newport Boulevard and 26th Street in front of Woody’s Wharf.
The pedestrians were struck at a high-speed. They suffered moderate to major injuries, but are expected to be okay.
The driver fled the scene, but witnesses helped lead police to a possible suspect on the northbound 55 Freeway north of 19th Street in Costa Mesa. As of 4 a.m. Saturday, the person had been detained for questioning.
