Driver Shot, Crashes Car During Robbery in Hollywood Hills

A professional driver was shot and his vehicle crashed early Thursday morning during a possible robbery in the Hollywood Hills, police said.

The car ended up on its roof around 2 a.m. near the 3400 block of Troy Drive, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police said the driver dropped off a woman who was approached by a man with a gun. The man demanded the passenger call the driver back. As the driver returned, he saw the man's gun, backed up and crashed before the man opened fire, according to the LAPD.

According to police, the driver was initially believed to be an Uber driver. It was confirmed he was not an Uber driver, but working as a professional driver.

The victim was transported to a hospital in unknown condition.

The shooter fled on foot.

A description of the gunman was not immediately available.
