A water main break flooded a Burbank intersection and put a gaping hole in the middle of the street Sunday afternoon.
The water main break was reported about 1 p.m. at Winona Avenue and Brighton Street, just north of the Empire Center shopping plaza and south of the Golden State (5) Freeway, according to the Burbank Police Department.
The hole caused by break is so large, a car could potentially drop down inside the hole, police said.
The intersection was closed to all traffic until crews repaired the hole at about 9:15 p.m. Officials first thought the roads would have to remain closed for 24 to 48 hours.
